I used to feel like I was slowly losing the people closest to me. Not because of a fight or some falling out – but because life got busy.
Between work, parenting, and just trying to stay afloat, I kept saying the same thing:
“I should reach out to them soon.”
But days turned into weeks. Weeks into months. And soon, friendships that once felt solid… felt distant.
That’s when I tried something simple – and it changed everything.
The Habit: A 15-Minute Weekly Connection Session
Every Sunday evening, I block 15 minutes in my calendar. I call it my Connection Session.
Here’s what I do:
- Look at my Inner Circle – I keep a short list of 5 people I want to stay close to.
- Check when I last connected – I use A Friendship Tracker for Notion, but you can use whatever system you use in your daily life.
- Send one message – A quick check-in, a voice note, or a shared memory.
- Plan one small meetup – A coffee next week, a walk, or a call.
That’s it.
15 minutes.
No pressure.
No guilt.
Closer friendships!
Why It Works
✅ It makes friendship a habit, not a hunch
Instead of waiting for the perfect time, I build connection into my routine.
✅ It lowers the bar
A short voice note is enough. You don’t have to write essays or plan elaborate meetups.
✅ It keeps me accountable
When I track who I’ve talked to, I notice when things are drifting – before it’s too late.
What changed for me
Since starting this ritual, I:
- Reconnected with an old friend I hadn’t seen in years.
- Started a monthly dinner habit with my closest buddy.
- Feel way less guilt about drifting friendships – because I’m doing something
I’m not the perfect friend. But I’m prioritizing it and working on it every week.
You should do the same.
Try it this week and see what happens
